Body Shape Quiz
Have a tape measure? The female body shape calculator gives a result based on your real measurements. Measuring for a man? Use the male body shape calculator.
How the body shape quiz works
Each answer adds points to the shapes it describes — for example, “my hips are clearly wider” points to pear, and “my waist is the widest part of my torso” points strongly to apple. The shape with the most points is your result. If another shape scores almost as high, the result lists it too.
Because it relies on self-assessment, treat the result as a starting point. For a firmer answer, follow the measuring guide and use the calculator.
The five possible results

Hourglass body shape
An hourglass body shape describes bust and hip measurements that are close to each other, with a waist that is noticeably smaller than both.

Pear body shape
A pear body shape — also called a triangle or spoon shape in some systems — describes hips that are noticeably larger than the bust.

Apple body shape
An apple body shape — sometimes called round or oval — describes a waist measurement that is about the same as, or larger than, both the bust and the hips.

A rectangle body shape — also called straight, column or banana — describes bust and hips of similar size, with a waist that is smaller but not dramatically so.

Inverted Triangle body shape
An inverted triangle body shape describes an upper body — measured here at the bust — that is noticeably larger than the hips.

Body shape quiz FAQ
How accurate is a body shape quiz?
A quiz is a quick estimate based on how you see your own body and how clothes fit. People often misjudge their own proportions, so a measurement-based calculator is more reliable.
What is the difference between this quiz and the calculator?
The quiz uses your answers about fit and proportion. The calculator uses your actual bust, waist and hip measurements and fixed rules, so the same numbers always give the same result.
Is this quiz for women or men?
The questions and results use the five shapes most often used for women’s figures. Men can use the male body shape calculator, which uses shoulders, chest, waist and hips.
My answers matched two shapes. Which am I?
Many people fall between categories. Read both shape guides, or take your measurements and use the calculator, which tells you when you are close to a boundary.
